The university's department for Researcher Development & Graduate Academy announces new grants for young researchers.

The university's department for Researcher Development & Graduate Academy would like to draw your attention to several internal funding lines for which you can submit applications within the next few weeks. The next deadline is August 31st 2021. The calls for the funding lines “Workshops” (Doctoral Candidates) and Summer/Winter Schools (Postdocs) are currently also open (Deadline 15th September 2021). Please see below for further details and links to the respective websites.

01. Call for Applications: Innovation Grants University of Tübingen

Sciences and Life Sciences
Innovation Grants in the Sciences and Life Sciences make it possible to test the viability of possible applications arising from the results of basic research (Proof of Concept). Junior re-searchers (postdocs, straight after completing their PhDs) are to be given the chance to turn results attained in their PhD studies into usable products. To be eligible for funding, projects must demonstrate a reasonable prospect of becoming commercially viable or of leading to col-laboration with non-University institutions. Projects aiming at a clinical trial are not eligible for funding under this program.

Humanities and Social Sciences
Innovation Grants give junior researchers in the Humanities and Social Sciences the opportuni-ty to transfer their research results to practical applications, thus suggesting alternatives to an academic career path within the University. The goal is to apply results attained from doctoral studies to the creation of innovative techniques, services and products through collaboration with extramural partners. This would enable a transfer of theoretical knowledge to the public sphere.
At the end of the funding period a concrete result is expected in the form of a tool, software, an education plan, a consulting concept etc. which has been developed in collaboration with in-dustrial companies, public institutions or volunteer societies.

Both lines:
Each Innovation Grant is for a period of two years (maximally) by which time the project must be completed or have secured external funding.  Innovation Grants may be used for the appli-cant's position and additionally for an employee position or student assistant as well as for ma-terial and investment resources.

Deadline both funding lines: August 31st and February 28th each year via online application tool
Requirements both lines: Applications may be submitted at the earliest 3 months before the end of the applicant’s PhD studies and no later than two years after completion of the PhD thesis.  The project must begin within 6 months of being approved; otherwise approval will be withdrawn. The application must be supported by a professor with regard to accommodation and infrastructure. The Innovation Grants are a personal funding program, not a project-related, i.e. the funding of the project expires after the funded person leaves the University of Tübingen.
