International Summer School: Bridging the Gender Data Gap in Mental Health (22–26 Sept 2025, Tübingen)

The fe|male brain initiative at the University of Tübingen, with substantial support from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), is pleased to announce the upcoming Summer School “Bridging the Gender Data Gap in Mental Health”, taking place from 22 to 26 September 2025 in Tübingen, Germany.

This week-long program is now open for applications until May 31st and is aimed at: 

  • Master’s, doctoral, and medical students
  • Clinicians in training
  • Postdoctoral research fellows

The Summer School offers a comprehensive and hands-on introduction to sex- and gender-sensitive research practices in neuroscience and mental health. Topics will include:

  • The relevance of sex and gender in basic, animal, and clinical research
  • Inclusive study design and analysis
  • Statistical methods for identifying sex/gender differences
  • Communicating findings to public and professional audiences
  • Policy and funding frameworks
  • Publishing standards for gender-sensitive research

Approximately 30 early-career participants will be selected to take part in focused educational modules and interactive sessions. Applications are welcome from both European and non-European candidates.

Participation is free of charge. However, attendees are expected to cover their own travel, accommodation, and meals. Depending on available funding, selected participants may receive partial support (e.g., travel bursaries or housing subsidies). Applicants with exceptional circumstances are encouraged to include this information in their application.
