The title of his talk is: “Reshaping the Brain’s Immune Landscape: Therapeutic Potential of Microglia Replacement”.

Microglia replacement represents a new paradigm for targeting brain immunity. This seminar will highlight strategies, mechanisms, and therapeutic implications of replacing the brain’s resident immune cells.

About the Speaker:

Dr. Marius Mader is a research group leader at the Research Institute Children’s Cancer Center Hamburg and clinician in the Department of Neurosorgery, UKR Hamburg. Dr. Marius Mader’s research group studies myeloid cells in the central nervous system, with a particular emphasis on microglia. A main research focus is the role of myeloid cells in malignant brain tumors, such as pediatric high-grade gliomas. A substantial portion of the tumor mass consists of tumor-associated myeloid cells, which – instead of mounting an anti-tumor response – actively promote tumor growth and suppress effective anti-tumor immunity. By unraveling the pathobiology of these cells, the group aims to develop innovative therapeutic strategies that profoundly modify the tumor microenvironment and empower the immune system to fight brain tumors more effectively. He was recently awarded an ERC starting grant to develop new cell replacement strategies for high-grade gloimas.
