TNC Neurocolloquium – "World Modeling in the NeuroAI Era"

Dan Yamins – Thursday, June 25th, at 16:15 (CEST)

The Tübingen Neurocampus (TNC) would like to invite you to the 4th talk of the TNC Neurocolloquium for the Summer Term 2026 on Thursday, June 25th, at 16:15 in the AI Center Lecture Hall (Maria-von-Linden-Straße 1 (MvL1), A2 (A-223)). The event will be held in a hybrid format, both in person and via Zoom. During the Q&A session, questions from the audience in the lecture hall will be given priority.

Please note the change in location from earlier announcements!

IMPRS Students‘ Favourite Lecture: Dan Yamins (Department of Psychology, Stanford University, USA)

Title: World Modeling in the NeuroAI Era

Host: Alina Krause & Benedikt Stöckle (IMPRS – Mechanisms of Mental Function and Dysfunction)

Abstract: I will discuss how a new class of world models can be useful for solving AI problems and modeling the brain. Probabilistic Structure Integration (PSI) has three basic components: (i) an efficiently-learnable probabilistic graphical model of the world, (ii) generic zero-shot structure estimation via causal inference in the underlying model, and (iii) a generic mechanism for re-integrating extracted structures as novel token types, continually improving the underlying model. I will discuss these core PSI principles, how they have generated state-of-the-art results in a variety of computer vision competencies, how they can apply beyond vision, and how PSI can help us toward improved brain and cognitive models.
